Identité III: Recontextualization

To focus on ID photos means directly questioning the photographic medium itself. The ID photo allows a democratization of the portrait and a broad representation of society. It is also a source of information about an individual, a social context, a society and identity standards set up by a State. Considered through the ID photo, the concept of identity is swaying between individual appropriation and collective dispossession, between sublimation and objectivation, between personal symbolic representation and standardized societal objectivity.

Through the example of Chinese ID, I question the notion of identity, individual and collective, and the feeling of belonging to a group, the feeling of existence of a group.
